Lola Shelburne

Lola Muriel Shelburne, age 86 of Hewitt, Texas died Tuesday October 28, 2014. A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 31, at Waco Memorial Park Cemetery, 6623 S. I35, Waco. The family will receive visitors 6 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 30, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Lola was born in Sweetwater, Texas, August 5, 1928 to Walter Grover Duncan and Annie Brinkley Duncan. The youngest child to Walter and Annie, Lola was raised by her older brothers and sisters from the age of eight, due to the untimely passing of her father and mother. Lola grew up in Oglesby and attended schools in the small community. She graduated from Oglesby High School in 1945. Her work included her first job at the Bluebonnet Ordinance Plant during World War II. Later she worked for Monings Department Store, Exporters and Traders Compress and Warehouse (Extraco) and Texas Farm Bureau. Lola married George Panos in 1947 and together they had two sons, Nick Panos and Larry Shelburne. Later she married Charles Shelburne on July 24, 1964 and had twin sons, Clint and Chuck Shelburne. Lola worked side-by-side with her husband Charles in his home building company, C.H. Shelburne Construction, and subsequently when they owned and operated the Country Store in Golinda for over twenty years.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband Charles Shelburne on December 13, 1999. Brothers: Volney Bailey Duncan, Ira Spurgen (Pedge) Duncan, Robert Thurman (Mike) Duncan and Walter Riley (Dude) Duncan. Sisters: Edith Burt, Gladys Henson and Bonnie Byford.
Lola is survived by four sons; Nick Panos and wife Pam of Gatesville, Larry Shelburne and wife Belinda of Waco, Clint Shelburne and wife Kathy of Hewitt and Chuck Shelburne and wife Carla of Golinda. Four grandchildren; Tracy Walters, Ryan Panos, Clay Shelburne and Spencer Shelburne and three great-grandchildren, Brian and Ben Baker and Cyris Panos and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are Barry Byford, Brad Byford, Clay Shelburne, Spencer Shelburne, Ryan Panos, and John Kilgore.
Lola will always be remembered for her independent nature. She was an avid sports enthusiast; especially for her beloved Dallas Cowboys Football. She loved her cat companion “Jenny” and her family requests memorials be made in her honor to the Waco Humane Society, 2032 Circle Road, Waco, Texas 76706.
