Leroy Boothe

September 18, 1929 — October 14, 2014

Leroy “Speedy” Boothe, 85, passed from this life into the arms of his Savior at 4:15 pm, October 14, 2014 at Hillcrest Baylor Scott and White Hospital. Services are scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Greater Waco Baptist Church. Pastor Gerald McKelroy will officiate and will be assisted by former pastor James Adams. Visitation will be Friday, October 17 from 6-8pm at Pecan Grove Funeral Home (3124 Robinson Drive). Interment will be at Moore Cemetery in Chalk Bluff.
Leroy was born in Hochheim, TX, on September 18, 1929. He attended schools in Hochheim and Yoakum, TX and enlisted in the US Marine Corps at an early age, serving three years including tours in the Pacific and China. Following his service, he worked many years in construction. He met and married Rexine in 1956 in Waco, and later became a heavy equipment truck driver for McKinney and James Construction, where he worked for 31 years. After retirement from that company, he worked at Waco Machinery an additional 13 years.
He was a member of Bellmead Calvary Baptist Church, later named Greater Waco Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, usher, and mission treasurer for more than 55 years.
Leroy was a beloved husband and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gaye Rexine Boothe. He is survived by four children and spouses, nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild: David Boothe and wife Giok of Houston, TX and their children Sean and Jade; Karen Spring and husband Greg of Wichita, KS and their sons, Jeremy and wife Kaila, and Joshua and wife Jennifer; Brian Boothe and wife Aldera of Marble Falls, TX and their children, Candice, Bethany, and Brian, Jr. and wife, Sharon and their daughter Ella; and Tamara Helton and husband Hal of Fort Worth, TX and their sons, Trevor and Ren. He is also survived by two brothers, Finley Boothe and Bobby Boothe, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many loving friends and a wonderful church family.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation and thanks to the doctors and staff at Hillcrest Baylor Scott and White Hospital ER and SICU for their wonderful and compassionate care of our loved one.
