Leon E. Murphy, 89 of Robinson went home to heaven surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, December 13, 2018. Leon was born on July 27, 1929 in Sterling, Kansas to Arthur and Eva Murphy. He is the oldest of four boys.
He lived in Kansas until the early fifties when he left and headed west to California where he served in the United States Marine Corps. After serving in the military Leon made a career in the Oil business for Phillips 66 and later ConocoPhillips. In the 1970’s he moved to Houston, TX where he met wife Judith of 42 years. Leon was a devoted Christian and lifetime member of the Nazarene church. Religion was very important to him and it guided his life. Leon had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing pranks and making people laugh. He was very kind and loving and always had a way of making people feel like they were family. Even in his last days Leon made everyone feel at ease through humor and laughter.
Leon is preceded in death by his father, Arthur; mother, Eva; and three brothers, Errol, Arthur Jr., and Corwin.
He is survived by his wife Judith; children, Carolyn Owens and husband Ron, Roger Murphy, Randy Threlkeld and wife Julie, Rhonda Poe and husband Tracey, Lewis Threlkeld and wife Debi; grandchildren Tonya Tenberg and husband David, Judy Vorderkunz and husband Jacob, Courtney Gilbreath and husband Wesley, Erica Threlkeld and husband William Haliburton, Andrew Threlkeld and wife Jennifer, Nick Threlkeld and wife Heather, Charlotte Threlkeld, Sheridan Garretson and husband Kevin; great grandchildren Caroline Vorderkunz, Jordan Haigood, Najala Haigood, Kaitlyn Tenberg, Chandler Emerson, Hayley Tenberg, Charlie Vorderkunz, McKenzie Gilbreath, Zeta Emerson, Madison Gilbreath, Kyler Gilbreath, Ashley Threlkeld and Jaxon Threlkeld.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 17,2018 at Robinson Cemetery with Rev. David Tenberg residing. Please join family for a meal and celebration of Leon’s life immediately following the service at Rev. Tenberg’s church, Point of Truth in Robinson, TX. The family will receive visitors Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 2-4 pm at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive.
