Lena Pophin

August 10, 1945 — September 24, 2013

Lena Lou Huey Pophin, 68, of Robinson, passed away, Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Services will be 10 am Friday, September 27 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home 3124 Robinson Dr. with her nephews, Pastor Tommy Pophin and Bro. Brian Benjey officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemond Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Thursday, from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
Lena was born August 10, 1945 in Waco to Howard and Lena Huey. She was married June 26, 1965 in Waco to Weldon Pophin. They have been faithful members of Meadowbrook Baptist Church for 40 years.
Lena worked for Baylor University and then the VA Regional Office where she retired in 2005. She then volunteered at Friends for Life. She lived her life for Christ and always had a smile on her face, song in her heart, and a contagious laugh. She also enjoyed camping with the Bosque River Roadrunner Sam’s Club. She loved spending time with her grandchildren watching them play soccer, golf, football, and basketball. She also loved to hear her granddaughter tell stories. She loved her friends and especially her Bunco groups that she has been a part of for over 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Christa Faith Ishaq.
Lena is survived by her husband, Weldon; daughters, Denise Crocker and husband Dennis of Robinson; Debra Ishaq and husband Yasin of Katy; four grandchildren, Curtis Crocker and wife Nicole of Bedford, Cody Crocker, Nicholas and Sarah Ishaq; “adopted grandchildren” Erica Young and husband Lorenzo, Alissa and Tristan Young; sister, Jackie Nye and husband Bob of Marietta, GA, 3 brothers, Don Huey and wife Helen, Howard Huey, Tyree Huey and wife Terri of Houston; brother-in-laws, Thomas Pophin and wife Joy of Robinson, Mickey Pophin and wife Linn of Round Rock, sister-in-law, Pat Pophin. She has numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved and always enjoyed hearing from them and seeing pictures of their families as they grew.
We want to thank all of her family and friends that have prayed for her through this past year. We know the power of prayer kept her strong until the very end. We also want to thank Providence Hospice for helping take such good care of her in the last few months.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Pophin, Shorty Stone, Charles Gauer, Del Rosenkranz, Larry Jones, Ray Henderson, Fred Holland, and Jack Ferguson
