L.D. Parsons, 94, of Robinson, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at the Pecan Grove Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Randy Hughes and the Rev. Marvin Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be held 6 to 8 p.m.Tuesday at the funeral home.
L.D. was born on Dec. 24, 1918 in Shawnee, Okla., to Joe and Nettie Parsons. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946, and during the Korean War in 1950. He married Barbara Hillis in Hattiesburg, Miss., on Aug. 28, 1943. L.D. has been a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church since 1965, and served as a deacon for many years. He was a longtime employee of Sinclair Refining Co., and retired from British Petroleum in 1985. He was also a proud member of the American Legion and the VFW.
L.D. was preceded in death by his parents; and by a son, Merle Parsons.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara A. Parsons; daughter, Vickie Gibbs and husband, George, of Mart; sister, Betty Jo McClure and husband, Bill, of Norman, Okla.; daughter-in-law, Barbara Jean Parsons of Keller; grandchildren Kevin Gibbs of Riesel, Traci Kimberling and husband, Chad, of Granbury, Tami Parsons of Lorena, Kimberly Green and husband, Rick of Humble, Toni Peebles and husband, Justin, of Hewitt; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
