Layton Douglas Nehring, 75, of Robinson, passed away Friday, June 10, 2016. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, at Meadowbrook Baptist Church, 1207 N. Old Robinson Road, Waco, with Dr. Cary Killough and Pastor David Cozart officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors 5 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 13, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Layton was born to Theodore and Hilda Nehring on September 21, 1940, in Waco, TX, and was raised in Rosenthal, TX. He graduated from Waco High School in 1959, and from Baylor University in 1971. Layton married Rita Gauer on September 11, 1965. He retired from the City of Waco in 1993, after 25 years of service. He went on to work at TxDOT and Genco Federal Credit Union, where he was working until he could no longer due to his illness. He was a longtime member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church. Layton enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and most of all, spending time with the family he loved dearly.
Layton was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Hilda Nehring.
Layton is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rita Nehring; son, Chad Nehring and wife Ann, and daughter Colette Pledger and husband Rep; brothers Ted Nehring, Jr., and wife Penny, and Aubrey Nehring; sister, Shirley McKee and husband Laney; and his grandchildren, Meagan, Malory, Katie and Hope Nehring, and Cade and Ryland Pledger.
