LaTrelle Carroll

July 16, 1931 — January 31, 2015

LaTrelle S. Carroll, 83, of Waco, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015, at a local hospital. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 7, at Robinson Cemetery on E. Stegal Drive. Visitation with the family will be 6 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 6, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
LaTrelle and her twin were born in a farmhouse in Robinson, Texas. After graduating Waco High, LaTrelle attended Baylor University. At a mission church in Waco, LaTrelle met Henry M. Apperson, a Baylor student and pastor. After a short courtship they married and were in the ministry serving in several churches in Texas and California after which Henry joined MCC as a History instructor. During these years LaTrelle was a housewife and mother of their three children while working in several offices in Texas and California. One office was the finance office at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church where she worked for 10 years. While there LaTrelle hired a Baylor student Cherry Smith Langford as her assistant. Cherry and her husband Jim became LaTrelle’s lifelong friends. LaTrelle moved to Austin, Texas, working in State offices until her retirement. While in Austin, LaTrelle adopted a beloved granddaughter, Angela. LaTrelle returned to Waco, working at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey for another 10 years. During this time she wrote and published scripture based articles in a local newspaper each week for 10 years. She considered writing to be her ministry to God. Coming from an artistic family LaTrelle began watercolor which she sold in three local businesses. For 8 years LaTrelle attended and graduated from the world-wide Bible Study Fellowship.
LaTrelle was preceded in death by her parents Clarence L. Simons and Eula Ellen Simons; sisters VaNeria Moring; Madge Bordovsky; Anne Stokes, and Fannie Crawford. Brothers, Doss Simons, Clarence P. Simons, and Allen Simons, and her twin’s husband, the late Herbert Stobbe.
LaTrelle is survived by her twin LaDelle Stobbe; children, Shari Apperson; JaNelle Grimes and husband Rick of Shawnee KS; Corwin Scott Apperson and wife Jaki; beloved adopted granddaughter, Angela Carroll. Grandchildren, Eli George Salem, and wife Jane; Joshua Grimes; Marcus Grimes; Zakree Apperson and wife Brook, and Leah Renee Apperson. Step grandchildren; Christian Long and husband Kevin of Walkersville, Maryland; Christopher Smith; and Jordan Harris. Niece JoEllen Roach and husband Marvin. Great nephews; Thomas Roach; Matthew Roach, and Nathan Roach.
Pallbearers will be Zakree Apperson; Eli Salem; Joshua Grimes; Marcus Grimes; Thomas Roach; Matthew Roach; Nathan Roach; Christopher Smith and Jordan Harris.
