Joe Larry Storrs, 78, of Waco passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, after a brave battle with cancer.
Larry was born in Riesel, TX on April 22, 1937 to Samuel and Ila Storrs. He attended Riesel High School and was active in all varsity sports for the Riesel Indians. During his high school years, he worked for the Riesel Rustler, his hometown newspaper and graduated in 1955.
Larry attended Sam Houston State University where he served as a member of ROTC and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism. While there, he was as a sports writer for the university newspaper, The Houstonian. He was a proud member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and was elected class president during his senior year.
After graduating from Sam Houston in 1959, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a commissioned officer at Fort Hood until he was honorably discharged in 1962.
Upon his return to Waco, he enrolled at Baylor University and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Arts degree in 1966. With this accomplishment, he began a long and successful career as an accounting executive in the Waco area. He retired from Brazos River Authority in 2000.
Larry had a lifelong love of sports. He was a die-hard fan of Baylor Bear football and basketball. He was a great fisherman and was fabulous in the kitchen. He loved to prepare savory meals for family and friends. Larry never met a stranger and was always generous in giving to others. He was a member of the Baylor Bear Club and regularly attended Sam Houston fraternity and alumni events.
He leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Linda Storrs of Waco, daughter Natalie Storrs of Aubrey, TX, Allison Storrs Sheets and son-in-law, Vincent, of Frisco, TX, and stepdaughter Sherri Clanton of Waco. He also leaves behind the four grandchildren he adored, Noah Storrs Caldwell of Aubrey, and Olivia, Colin and Sofia Sheets of Frisco.
He is preceded in death by his parents Sam and Ila Storrs and brother, A.W. Storrs.
He was loved deeply and will be missed by those he left behind.

A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive. The family will receive visitors 5 – 7 p.m., Monday, February 29, at the funeral home.
