Larry was born Aug. 18, 1953 in Dove Creek, Colorado to parents Kenneth Wayne Colwell and wife Ruby Lee (Cochran) Colwell, one of three boys born to Ruby. Larry made it to Texas at an early age and never left for long again. He was raised a country boy and loved taking his sons and wife camping, going hunting especially quail and fishing. He had an outgoing personality and enjoyed making people laugh. Larry played drums in two different bands and loved music. He was in his life a police officer for a short time before becoming an outstanding dog trainer and groomer. Larry trained Personal Protection, Seeing Eye and Bird Hunting dogs. His favorite breed to groom was poodles and no one did top knots and poodle feet like Larry could. He had a large heart and a personality to go with it.
Larry meet Cheryl in Dimmitt in 1975 and they were married July 28, 1976 in Clovis, New Mexico. Larry had two sons, Danny and Justin that he raised and loved. But his main devotion was to his Lord Jesus followed closely by his love for his wife. The two were never apart until the day he was taken home.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Ruby; and older brother, James “Roger” Weems.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl Renay (Sullivan) Colwell; two sons, Danny Reynolds-Colwell and Justin Wayne Colwell; and older brother, Gary Wayne Colwell, five grandchildren and numerous cousins and extended family on both sides of his family. His wife’s family cannot express how much Larry will be missed at our family gatherings.
