Kenneth Hilton

June 14, 1938 — March 31, 2013

Kenneth Eugene Hilton (Ken), 74, of Robinson, Texas, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 2:00, Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, Hwy 77 at New Road, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco, TX 76706. Son-in-law, Rusty Bailey, Pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City, Iowa will be officiating.
Ken was born in McAllen, TX on June 14, 1938. He attended PSJA in the Rio Grande Valley, entered the National Guard, and in 1957 joined the United States Army and was stationed in Japan. He was an early pioneer of the computer age, and received education and training that would ultimately last him a lifetime.
Ken was married to Barbara Lynn Fowler on November 5, 1960; they were married 52 years. Ken and Barbara were not only marriage partners, they were the very best of friends, sharing interest and never lacking for conversation. A common ritual in their house, every morning with coffee, they would read articles aloud from the daily paper.
Ken worked as a computer programmer for several oil companies in Houston during the 70’s and 80’s. He retired from WRS Group in Waco in 2011. He excelled at the challenge of writing code for computers and sharing his knowledge with co-workers. “If you need it done, I can write a program for it,” was often said by Ken. Throughout his career, he formed life-lasting friendships. An avid history buff, Ken researched and read about all aspects of WWII. Along with this interest, he was a Louis L’Amour enthusiast, having read every book by the author. Never shy about his singing or whistling skills, Ken sang joyfully along with the radio whether alone or in public. Fishing and bowling were life-long hobbies and he looked forward to occasional casino trips. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Baylor Women’s Basketball team, and Houston Astros (from the time they were The Colt. 45’s). He walked every year for the Relay for Life and supported the Salvation Army.
Ken is survived by his wife, Barbara, his daughter and son-in-law Cindy & Rusty Bailey of Swea City, Iowa, his daughter and son-in-law Sharon & Max Moreno of Fredericksburg, TX, his daughter and son-in-law Lisa & Frank Hoke of Huntsville, TX and grandchildren, Roy & Crystal Adame, Romy & Will Wilson, Hilton Moreno, Saul Moreno, Cade Hoke and Kendall Hoke, and other family and friends. Ken was inheritably open-minded and accepting of all people. He encouraged his girls and grandchildren to listen to their own voice and live an independent and authentic life. Family members in crises knew they were always welcome in Ken’s home.
Ken is preceded in death by his son, David Patrick Hilton, his parents Idras and Mary Hilton, his sister Ann Cheney, and grandson Case Dreesen Hoke.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Salvation Army, American Heart Association, or the charity of your choice.
“No memory is ever alone; it's at the end of a trail of memories, a dozen trails that each have their own associations,” by Louis L’Amour.
