Karla Gayle Kubala, 70, of Waco, TX, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022. A celebration of life will be from 1 – 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 20, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Karla was born January 15, 1952, in Waco, TX to John Wayne and Nancy Ruth (Kinder) Collins. She attended Bell’s Hill Elementary School and University High School. Karla had a beautiful voice and sang in the church choir, school choir and high school jazz band. She worked at General Tire for several years where she met her husband, James Kubala. They married on August 16, 1980. She also worked for the Leroy, Elm Mott and West post offices for 21 years. She loved visiting with people who came in.
Karla enjoyed family gatherings and she loved cooking and was known as an excellent cook. Her chocolate pie was a favorite of everybody who knew her. She was a member of Grace Gospel Church in Axtell, TX and she was strong in her Christian faith. Karla was “Ninnie” to her grandchildren. She enjoyed life to the fullest and her laughter was contagious. Karla was a lover of all animals. She would take in any and all strays. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Karla was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nancy Collins; her father and mother-in-law, Eddie and Josephine Kubala and nephews Christopher Collins and Eddy Ruby.
She is survived by her husband, James Kubala; her children, Nikki Gayle Fanning, John Fanning and wife Sherri, and Kayla Maynard and husband, John David; sister, Vickie Savage and husband Donnie; brother, Kenneth Collins and wife Cherie; grandchildren, Brianne Johnson, Billie Johnson, III, Megan Engeldinger, Sarah Fanning, Colby Fanning and Landon Wachtendorf; great-granddaughter, Emma Engeldinger; and her beloved dog, Lucy.
