Joseph Wolf

Joseph Truitt Wolf, 88, went home to be with his Lord and reunite with his wife Edith on Friday, April 10, 2020. A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 14th at Waco Memorial Park.

Joe, as he was called by friends while family fondly called him “JT,” was born in Marlin, Texas, on November 1, 1931, to Albert J. and Lucy (Caddell) Wolf. He grew up in Riesel, Texas, and the surrounding area, graduating from Riesel High School in 1950. He often reminisced about his fellow classmates and recalled his “glory years” with teammates on the Indian football team with whom he thoroughly enjoyed playing as their quarterback.

After graduation, he served four years in the U. S. Air Force and was stationed in Korea during that conflict. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and would joke that he only “flew a desk,” but was proud of his service to our country. Joe was awarded the United Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Upon returning home, he worked at several companies, including L.L. Sams in Waco and Gulf States in Houston before his employment as a mail carrier with the U. S. Post Office. He retired from the post office after 20 years of service.

Joe met the love of his life, Edith Graf, in Houston, and they were married in January 1962. They enjoyed bowling and dancing, and he was a good dancer, having taken lessons at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio. In 1979, after both retired, they moved to Mena, Arkansas. There they operated a credit bureau service and later both worked at Ace Hardware and served with the Mena Volunteer Fire Department. Joe and Edith enjoyed the mountains and traveling on road trips with family and friends. In the mid-nineties they returned to Waco to be closer to family. Here, Joe worked part-time for Central Texas Dental Lab. He also delved into his enjoyment of carpentry and wood-working while doing some of the repairs and remodeling on rental properties he owned.

Joe and Edith were active members of Youngblood Memorial Presbyterian Church in Robinson for many years and served as elders.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Edith; his parents Albert and Lucy; his sisters Eva Wallace, Onie Johnson, and Juanita Owens; and his brothers Leonard Wolf, Louie Wolf, Lonnie Wolf and C.B. Wolf. He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews spanning three generations.

Joe requested that, In lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Heart Association.
