Jose “Joe” Davila Lopez, 69, of Waco passed away January 30, 2021 due to complications related to Covid-19.
Joe was born on March 17, 1951 to Barbarito and Lorenza in Zacatecas, Mexico. He moved to Waco in his early 20’s where he met and married Lidia Portillo. Together they had two sons, Oscar and Joseph. They were married for 30 years until her passing in 2006. Joe was a painter at Alamo Steel for 30 years. After the devastating loss of his wife Lidia, Joe found love again and remarried in 2011 to an amazing woman, Maria Munoz. Together they had a son, Jose Julian. Joe was blessed in gaining a close bond with his step-daughter, Cielito. Although Joe had an undoubtable love for his Dallas Cowboys, he also had a love and passion for baseball. He played baseball for many years and was a diehard fan of the L.A. Dodgers. He was so happy to watch his team win the World Series one more time. Joe enjoyed his cookouts and family get togethers. He was always outside doing something or just enjoying the sun. He lived everyday like he was still 21, right down to jumping on the trampoline with his youngest baby boy, Julian. Joe was the most loving and welcoming husband, father, grandfather and person you could know. Most of his son’s friends referred to him as “Pops” because he treated them as his own.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Barbarito; his first wife, Lidia; granddaughter, Emily; along with several brothers and sisters.
Joe is survived by his wife, Maria; mother, Lorenza; sons, Oscar Lopez and wife Dolores, Joseph Lopez, Julian Lopez, Marcelo Jimenez; daughters, Cielito and Vanessa Varga, Barbara Gonzales and husband Michael, Bernadina Jimenez; sister, Nina; grandchildren, Ariana, Christian, Abigail, Emilio, Nick, Angeliya, Joseph Jr., Julian, Marisa, Joshua, Miranda; and five great-grandchildren.
