Jonathan "Johnny" Darrel Rogers, 17, of Robinson, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 26, at Victorious Life Church, 7459 S IH 35, Waco, 76707. The family will receive visitors, Monday, May 25, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Victorious Life Church. Services will be officiated by Steve Abbe, Bob Johns, and Albert Fuentes. Private burial for the family will follow at Robinson Cemetery.
Johnny was born in Waco, Texas on June 3, 1997 to Marty and James Rogers. He was a senior at Robinson High School. For most of his life, he was happily immersed in the world of sports, playing for many community leagues and both Robinson Jr. High and High Schools. He played basketball, baseball, and football – and excelled at all three. There was never a boy who loved to play and be part of a team as much as Johnny Rogers. When not playing sports, he was active in several churches and youth groups. He also loved to sing – it did not matter if it was in front of other people or just all to himself.
More than anything else, he loved his parents and three brothers – Alex Rogers, 21, Jordan Rogers, 13, and Jaxen Mccaig, 1, all of Robinson, Texas. They played so many games of backyard baseball and pickup basketball, and also those dangerous games of “living room football” which was played on their knees so it was easier to tackle one another. They shared an unbelievable bond and that will never change.
Johnny is survived by his parents, Marty McCaig and James Rogers; grandparents Marcie and Darrel McCaig of Robinson; grandparents Joann and Jimmy Rogers of Arlington; brothers Alex and Jordan Rogers, and Jaxen McCaig; aunts Melissa McCaig, Bethany Lankford and her husband Tim, Paula Henderson and her husband Matthew, and Lindsey Packett and her husband David; cousins Hannah, Josh, and Erin Lankford, Luke, Samuel, Madeline, and Philip Henderson, and Max and Lucy Packett; great-grandparents Doil and Ann Wooten, as well as many other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Colten Goette, Jacob Fuentes, Kalil Washington, Paul Prkna, Lathan Painter, Josh Lankford, Matt McQueen, Josh Kirk, and Travois Petty.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to a fund set up for the family at Educators Credit Union. The family of Johnny Rogers wishes to thank all of the Robinson Independent School District students and faculty, the members of Victorious Life Church and Downsville Baptist Church. Their love and support, and that of countless others in the Waco and Robinson communities, has been a great relief.
To #83 we say – Rockets never quit. And our love for you never will, either.
