John Ray Cardwell, 65, of Waco, passed away Monday, September 22, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be 2pm Friday, September 26 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr. Pastor Tom Warnock will officiate.
John was born and raised in Waco by James and Conjetta Thomas. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force where he served proudly for several years. He retired from HEB as a meat cutter after many years of service. John was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman all of his life.
Mr. Cardwell is preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his son, Jason Cardwell and wife Shannon; sisters, Geneva Thompson and husband Ray and Carol Donaldson and husband Donnell; two nieces, Angela Abbe and husband Preston, and Amber Donaldson; two nephews, Michael Thompson and Chad Donaldson; three grandchildren; four great nieces; four great nephews; and one great-great nephew, as well as numerous friends.
For those who knew and loved John, we all will remember, among the many things, his wonderful, contagious laugh. As was his life, “Shall we gather at the river.”
