John (Johnny) Charles Barber reunited with his beloved wife, Reca Janene Barber, on September 17 after a brief illness at Baylor Hillcrest Scott & White Hospital.

Johnny was born to John Leon and Billie Jean Barber on September 10, 1944 in Waxahachie, Texas. He was preceded in death by the following: wife Reca Janene Barber; parents - father John Leon Barber , mother Billie Jean Barber, and stepfather Willard (aka “Pooskie”) Barber; siblings - brother Steve Barber , sister Mary Jane Rice , sister Becky Nichols; child – daughter Terri Dailey–Barker.

Living loved ones include: siblings - Jeannie and husband Jim Regan; Bill (Billy) and wife Shirley Barber, Teresa and husband Steve Uptmore, and Ricky Barber; children - Johnny Ray and wife Sandra Barker; Michael and wife Darla Maynard, Mark and wife Kistin Maynard; grandchildren – Tavin, Matthew, Rachel, Emma, Jacob; Kaylee Camire, Mystica, Macy, Josh, Jacob, Jesse and wife Scotti; and three great grandsons and one great granddaughter.

Johnny lived in Waco where he attended Waco schools and earned a GED in 1962. He worked at General Tire as a tire treader, at Crankshaft & Valve and Barringtons as a machinist, and at Central Freight as a mail clerk for over twenty years. He enjoyed small-engine repair, bluegrass music, visiting Disney World, riding motor cycles, and watching TV westerns, especially Gun Smoke. He was an usher at Cornerstone (Baptist) Church for many years. Johnny was well known for being friendly, outgoing and willing to help anyone with whatever needs arose.

Visitation and viewing will be at Cornerstone in Robinson Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m with burial to follow at Waco Memorial Park. Services will be officiated by Pastor Jim Daniels. A family luncheon at the church will complete the gathering.

Gifts of Gideon Bibles and other memorials may be given through Cornerstone.
