John Wayne Settlemyer, Sr., 78, of Lorena, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015. Funeral services will be at 10 am, Friday Dec. 11 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr., Waco with Chaplain Barry Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Robinson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 pm, Thursday Dec. 10 at the funeral home.
John was born on September 23, 1937 in Mooresville, North Carolina to Charles and Niece Settlemyer, he was one of twelve children. He married Ann Earnhardt on April 26, 1961 in North Carolina. They were blessed with two children.
John was a man full of life, fun, but loved work/business acumen. He was known in the Waco area for his job as operations manager at Waco Apparel, and would then continue in the textile industry with his move to Cleveland, Georgia for Orbit Industries. An avid golfer, he never missed an opportunity to take his children and grandchildren out on the course. He also enjoyed fishing, loved to take care of his garden, loved animals, and to be surrounded by his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Niece; plus numerous brothers and sisters.
John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann; children, Sandra Rabbe and husband Brad, and John Settlemyer, Jr. and wife Gail. He deeply loved his grandchildren: Jeremy and wife Katie, Matt, Clayton, Courtney and husband Mikal, Trey, Bradley, and one great-grandson Holden. Also, “the best dog in the whole world” Aggie. He is also survived by his brother Steve and sister Ruth, as well as many other family and friends.
