John Edward Lawson 92, of Waco (formerly of Riesel), passed away, Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Services will be 1 pm, Friday, June 27, 2014, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home 3124 Robinson Dr., Lon Jones and Alan Ritchie officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors, Thursday, June 26, from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
John was born, May 17, 1922, in Bruceville-Eddy to John B. and Anna Bell Lawson. He was raised in Hamilton County in Ireland, TX. He served in the Army Air Corp, during World War II. He married Ruby Smith on July 14, 1951; they made their home in Riesel Texas for 46 years before moving to Waco. He started his hard work at the age of 15, taking over the family farm, after his father passed away. He raised chickens, hogs and cattle. This time of year John could always be found in the garden which he raised to be shared with those in need. He worked for General Tire for over 30 years. After retirement he cut and sold firewood. He loved to play 84 dominos and spending time with his family. He was a long time member of Northside Church of Christ and the last 12 years at New Road Church of Christ. Faithful Christian man and believer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruby Lawson; daughter, Brenda Anderson; son, James Lawson; grandchildren, Chris and Tiffany Anderson; great-grandchildren, Amelia and Antonio; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
