John R. Garrett, 53, of Axtell, passed away suddenly Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. Services will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, November 4th, at Axtell Baptist Church in Axtell, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday, November 3rd, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
John was born August 25, 1964, in Waco, TX, to parents Barbara A. (Lebkowsky) and John E. “Gus” Garrett. John attended Axtell and La Vega schools. He has worked at various places in Waco, including Aigner Co., Owens-Illinois, Sanderson Farms, and most recently Trautschold Millwork. He enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time at the river, riding his motorcycle, and being outdoors. He loved to draw, build model cars, and woodworking. John was a good friend to many and loved his mother and his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, John E. “Gus” Garrett, grandparents William and Evelyn Lebkowsky and John and Minnie Ola Garrett, and step-brother Jerry Skains.
John is survived by his mother, Barbara Skains of Axtell, two sisters, Denise Sasser and husband Joe, of Lorena and Lynette Greenhill of Monroe, Ohio, two daughters, Ashley Garrett and grandson Jonesy of Mart and Amanda Payne of Bruceville Eddy, two step-daughters, Misty and Renee, grandchildren, Justin, Eli, Gabby, Raiden, Daryl, Kaydin, and Astrid, nephews, Danny, Jimmy, Doug, and Josh and other extended family.
