JoAnn Cotharn Abernathy Kruk, 89, of Waco, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014, at a local nursing facility. The family will receive visitors, Wednesday, May 28, 2014, from 12 pm to 1 pm at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 pm at Robinson Cemetery with Pastor Micheal Moore officiating.
JoAnn was born July 7, 1924, in Franklin, TX, to Austin B. and Lutie (Nelson) Cotharn. She attended from Waco High and married James Abernathy. She worked at the cement plant and A.O. Smith until she met and married Gene Kruk. Over the next 40 years, she and Gene moved to Troy, Ohio and later to League City, Texas, before returning to Waco following Gene’s death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; brothers, Aubrey, Gillis, John, and Ray Cotharn; sisters, Hazel Crutchfield, Joyce Faust, Kathleen Lillard; baby brother, Holman Cotharn, and stepson, Randy Kruk.
She is survived by her sister, Gaynelle Wilson of San Antonio; brothers, Vachel Cotharn and wife, Nancy, of Fort Worth, and Kenneth Cotharn and wife, Billie, of Robinson; stepsons, Keith Kruk, and Gary Kruk and wife, Susan; and many, step-grandchildren. Although JoAnn never had any children herself, she was loved and will be missed just as much by many nieces and nephews spread over Texas.
