Joan Whitaker Dugger 85, of Waco TX, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, January 29th 2019. She was born February 18 1933 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England to William George (Bill), and Jane (Jennie) Whitaker. War broke out in Europe when she was 5 years old and she spent the next 6 years dealing with food rationing and bombing blackouts. In 1948, when she was 15 years old her family moved to Terre Haute Indiana crossing the Atlantic on the R.M.S. Mauretania.
In 1952 she married Ralph Morris Dugger and moved to Waco Tx. On April 8 1954 their first child Trevor Brys Dugger was born, followed by Kevin Allen Dugger, June 3 1957, and Tristan Heathe Dugger May 7 1971.
Joan began learning to play the piano at the age of 3. At 5 she began to play for her local church services. She continued to play for her church at several venues up until late 2018. She was a very gifted sight reader and musician. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, and reading.
She spent most of her career working in various admin roles for several businesses and churches.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Jennie, her sister Ruth, and eldest son, Trevor.
She is survived by her husband Ralph, son Kevin, his wife Linda, Son Tristan, Trevor’s daughters Adreanne and Trisstah. Kevin’s children Kevin Austin and Amber, and Tristan’s daughter, Tristine. All of these she loved and influenced greatly.
There will be a visitation service at Pecan Grove Funeral Home Thursday, January 31st from 6pm-8pm.
Her memorial service will be 10am Friday, February 1st at First United Methodist Church, Waco Texas and will be followed by a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery.
