Jerry “Bob” Smith, 76, of Hewitt, TX, transitioned from this world into the amazing glory of his heavenly home on Friday, June 3, 2022. He was surrounded with his family by his side as he left us peacefully.
Please join the family of Jerry Bob Smith at Waco Memorial Park on Wednesday, June 8, at 10:30 a.m., for a graveside service officiated by his lifelong friend, Bro. Roy Marshall. There will be no services at Hewitt First Baptist Church. Family and friends are welcome to visit at the home of Bob and Donna. Viewing is Tuesday, June 7, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Pecan Grove Funeral Home.
Bob was born January 30, 1946 to James Sam and Josie Mae (Bradley) Smith in Waco, TX. He graduated Midway High School. He courted Donna Lee Gaines, his childhood sweetheart, for 3 years and then they married March 18, 1964. They had 58 wonderful precious years together. Bob carried Donna’s first grade picture, from when they met, and one of her from Junior High in his wallet their whole married life.
Bob worked at Lehigh Cement for 42 years, where he retired from in 2009. He lived his entire life in Hewitt, TX. Bob’s family has been members of Hewitt First Baptist for over 100 years, where Bob attended and became a Deacon and a Gideon. He loved his Lord and Savior. One of his lifelong joys was spending time working on modern cars all the way to classics. He loved watching Nascar racing. One of his favorite pastimes after retiring was spending time with the love of his life and sweetheart, Donna and their family and friends. Bob was a kind and gentle man that never expected anything in return.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Perry Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Smith; son, Kevin Smith and wife Donnell; daughter, Melissa Graham and husband Leslie; brother, B.J. Smith and wife Betty; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; cousins, many nieces and nephews and lots of friends, family and loved ones that will miss him dearly.
