Jeanettie Ellen Mobbs Sullivan, 86, missing her 87th birthday by ten days, departed this world to join her heavenly Father and Lord in heaven, Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016. Graveside services and interment will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8th at Waco Memorial Park, under the direction of Pecan Grove Funeral Home.
Jeanettie was born in Hedley, Donley County, Texas on Nov. 15, 1929, to parents Benjamin Franklin Mobbs and Amanda (Mandie) Buggy (Mezo) Mobbs. She was the youngest of six children and the last surviving child of this union. Growing up a farmer’s daughter, she lived nearly equal amounts of time in Hedley, Texas and Springdale, Arkansas. While growing up, she loved walking around town to see a movie, playing the guitar and singing, and being outdoors running wild until dark. Jeanettie also loved the sound of trains passing by, blowing their whistles.
Jeanettie’s nickname was JEM, the initials of her first, middle and maiden name until she married Virgil Ray Sullivan in Clovis, New Mexico on September 22, 1951 and was forever after called JES by her loving husband Virgil of 65 years. She was also affectionately, most of the time, anyway, referred to as “the Navajo” by her husband and eight children. Mom was the moral compass of our family. She held strong beliefs and convictions and was not afraid to voice them. We all respected and feared (not in a bad way but with healthy respect) of getting on her bad side. My mom was not our friend, she was our parent and she always had the best interest of her children and husband as her objective. We, her family, hold her in the highest esteem and she will be missed, though that word seems inadequate of expressing our deep sorrow and grief at her loss.
Mom was a fantastic cook, an extremely talented painter; hand sewed a quilt for each of her children and made jewelry up until the day of her death. Jeanettie was always looking for a way to take trash and make it into something useful. She would be constantly looking for things on the ground when she could still walk, finding arrow heads, glass, stones, even maple twirlers that she would use to make things into. The coming holidays will be an equal amount of sorrow and joy as we remember and grieve the loss of this wonderful woman.
Jeanettie was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Jimmy Allen Davis, grandson-in-law, Dalton Robins, four brothers, Pawnee Bill Mobbs, Robert (Bob) Leon Mobbs, Thurman Lee Mobbs, Audy Houston Mobbs and sister Martha Lou Mobbs Sigmon.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil and eight children; Cynthia Rae Davis, Deborah Ellen Sullivan, Gary Dean Sullivan, Cheryl Renay Colwell and husband Larry, Joquita Ann Sullivan and AJ, Patricia Lynn Pack and husband James, Tina Sullivan and Frank Ramos and Shannon Denise Sullivan and James Galloway Jr. Grandchildren, Cory Stratton, Misty Stratton Thornton, Danny Reynolds Colwell, Justin Colwell, Mickie Sullivan Cassidy, Melanie Sullivan, Monica Sergent Childress, Natacha Sergent Michaud, Ricky Sergent, Crystal Sullivan, Nathan Bell, Casey Bell Tompkins, Amanda Pack Goray, Shane Pack, Tabitha Sullivan-Ramos, Natacia Sullivan-Ramos, Blake Sullivan-Ramos, Jordan Jeanettie Schultz and dad, Terry Harrison, as well as 38 great- grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, too many to count, but not too many to love.
On behalf of Jeanettie and her family, we wish to first give thanks to Jesus, our Lord and Savior, whom gives us hope of seeing our mom again and other blessings. Our family would not be as loving or strong without His presence. Thanks goes to Bluebonnet, especially Savannah, the wonderful staff at the Scott and White Coumadin Clinic at Fish Pond Road, who always made mom feel special and loved, special thanks to her family doctor, Sandra Kitson; Mary and Jessica, mom loved it when you made her house smell so good and visited with her about her jewelry; and of course Mom would want to thank her husband and children for everything they are doing to honor her wishes.
