Jay Pierce

Jay Warren Pierce, 98, of Hewitt passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 in Waco. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, June 2 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr. in Waco, with Bro. Roy Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Monday, June 1 at the funeral home.

Warren was born in Waco on November 16, 1916 to Drury Francis and Lollie Ella (Padgett) Pierce. He served his country in the US Army Air Force in 1941. He trained as a pilot and also trained to fly helicopters. In September 1945, Warren married Juanita Short and they had 2 children, Larry and Patty. Juanita passed away in 1994. Warren worked for Owens-Illinois and retired after 35 years of service. In 1996, he married Jeanie Makovy.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marius Pierce.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanie; son, Larry Pierce and wife, Cyndi Jean; daughter, Patty Sullinger and husband John; Jeanie’s children, Billie Colson and husband Johnie, Darrel Makovy and wife Kim, Raymond Makovy, Trina Garza and husband Sonny, and Kevin Makovy; grandchildren, Stephen Lawrence and Jason Lawrence; brother, Glenn Pierce and wife Margie; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, James Howard, his best friend for 80 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hewitt, 301 First Street, Hewitt, TX 76643.
