James Homer Holmes, 84, of Waco, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015. Visitation will be at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr., Sunday, February 1 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Graveside services will be Monday, February 2, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Waco Memorial Park with Pastor David Cozart officiating.
Homer was born in Waco on February 20, 1930 to Lee and Pearl (Ivy) Holmes. He began his career as a truck driver as a teenager and finally retired in 2012 at the age of 82. On November 20, 1954 he married Evelyn Marie Meador at Cranfills Gap. They had three children: Connie, Cathy, and Stephen. He travelled in the late 1970's and throughout the 1980’s to Alberta and British Columbia & into the state of Washington for about ten years. From the 1990's and into his retirement he drove back and forth between Texas and California.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Lee & Pearl; his son, James Stephen Holmes; his grandson, Glenn Burt, Jr. (J.R.); and his brother, Iredell Holmes.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Evelyn; daughters, Connie Frazar and husband Mark, and Cathy Burt; granddaughter, Sara Kyle and husband Randell; great-grandson, Noah Kyle. And we can't forget, his favorite little puppy dog, Sweet Pea!
