James "Blu" Brown, 80, of Robinson, passed away Monday, July 13, 2009, in Waco. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr., with the Rev. Joel Robbins officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Funeral Home.
James was born Dec. 17, 1928, in Troy, to James B. Brown, Sr. and Annie E. (Patterson) Brown. He graduated from Bruceville-Eddy High School in 1946. He met Joann Merritt in 1950 and after a short courtship they were married Dec. 30, 1950, in Waco. He worked for Texas Highway Department, retiring with 30 years of service. He was a member of Baylor Masonic Lodge #1235 for over 50 years and served as lodge secretary for 44 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was a member of Morreville United Methodist Church.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joann Brown on Sept. 12, 2008; and sister, Lillie V. Nobles.
He leaves behind a daughter, Susan Davis and husband, Bruce; brother, Bill Brown and wife, Dottie; brother-in-law, Jerry Merritt and wife, Gertrude; grandchildren, David Lynch, Amanda Brown and husband Adam, and Matthew Davis; favorite niece, Betty Walsleben and husband, David; special family friend, Mary Beth Nickerson; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Snickers.
Pallbearers will be Ray Rushing, Brandon Fergueson, Jerry Odle, Joe Morgan, Jim Berry, Justin Green; honorary pallbearers, Kenneth Harding, Ed Archer, Joe Rebrobich, Grady Redding, Albert Cobbs, Lavon Chaney, Marvin Bentley.
