Howard E. Johnson, 85, of Eddy passed away peacefully Saturday, March 4, 2023 at his home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 13 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr., Waco with Chaplain Dennis Camp officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 12 at the funeral home.
Howard was born November 7, 1937 to Ernest and Esther (Blackwell) Johnson on the farm near Eddy, Texas. He attended Bruceville – Eddy schools, playing football, basketball, baseball, track and participated in wrestling. He graduated in 1956. Right out of high school, Howard worked for Marstaller Motors for three years as a mechanic. From there he went to work at Plymouth Products for a short time. He spent the rest of his working career at Central Freight Lines from 1959 until retirement in 2000. He started out as a dockhand, before getting his CDL to drive a truck for the remainder of his 41 year career with them.
He married Patricia Fortune in June of 1958 in Hillsboro, Texas. Howard bought and worked the farm with James Johnson and Ernest Johnson, his father. In 1981, he and Patricia divorced. He then married Linda Moore in Vegas in August 29, 1982.
Howard touched the hearts of many people, throughout his life. He could fix anything without any help from the internet. He was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed interacting with his cattle and loving on his cats, Smokey and Jaxson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry Lee Johnson, James Robert Johnson, Johnny David Johnson; sister, Minnie Elizabeth Johnson Resendez; wife, Linda Johnson.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Vickie Bracken and husband Mike, Randy Johnson and wife Nadine, Jody Bounds and wife Patty, Carrie Good and husband David; grandchildren, Maegan Nix, Brady Good, MaKayla Bounds, Bryce Good, Braxton Bounds, Santiago Diaz, Monica Martin, Kristin Johnson, Dylan Lee, Cody Janek, Robert Haddock and Lacie Johnson; plus fourteen great-grandchildren, Gracelynn, Addyson, Aryanna, Ava, Sadie, Briella, Blakely, Chance, Savanah, Jayda, Julz, Kyndall, Kaylie, and Levi.
