Homer Weldon Tubbs Jr. was born on April 8, 1939 in Norton, Tx to Thelma Elizabeth and Homer Weldon Tubbs. He was their third child and had three sisters, Patsy, Shirley, and Lowell. At an early age, Sam contracted Diphtheria and Polio which left him temporarily paralyzed. He learned to walk again and in spite of a noticeable limp, he lead a normal life. He was raised in Wilmeth and attended and graduated high school in Winters, Tx, where he excelled in band, academics, FFA, and 4H. He then attended Texas Tech University and San Jacinto College. Sam married Peggy Walker and moved to Waco and had two kids Sammy and Shauna. Later in life he married Kay Greer and had twin boys Cody and Chad. Sam worked at Gulf States Paper in Waco for 40 years and made lifelong friends there.

Sam enjoyed teaching his kids how to deer hunt, fish, and bird hunt. He definitely lead by example on the importance of family by attending family reunions, holidays, weddings, and vacations. His love of music started in high school where he played the trombone. He went on to learn to play mandolin, violin, acoustic and electric guitar, and he absolutely loved playing his banjo. He played it until four months before his passing. He was extremely proud when his twins started pursuing music and he beamed with pride every time he listened to them play. Sam loved being a grandfather and was very involved in his grandchildren’s lives. He enjoyed babysitting, attending sporting events, band concerts, FFA events, graduations, and weddings. He was blessed to have met all 3 of his great grandchildren. In his retirement years, Sam spent more time farming in Norton and Wilmeth. He always had a big garden that he shared with everyone. Sam had a fascination with rocks from an early age and in his later years he even tumbled rocks and made jewelry for his family.
