Herman Thomas Bell, Sr., passed away Thursday, June 8th, 2017, at his residence. Visitation will be 6 – 8::00 p.m., Monday, June 12, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco. A memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 13, at Treasure City Flea Market, 2112 LaSalle Ave., Waco.
Herman was born on May 2, 1928 to Tom and Ethel Bell in Grand Saline, Texas. He married Jimmie Dean Wilcox on February 13, 1951. He was a sergeant in the United States Army serving his country from 1950 to 1953. He was on his own by the age of 13, leaving home and finding a job as a dishwasher at the Oasis Café in McGregor. He owned a pig farm and apartment complex building along with several other businesses on the Old Dallas Hwy.
As an entrepreneur he started his own insurance agency. He owned Bellco Auto Sales and Surety National, a premium finance company. In 1983 he bought the Circle Drive-In Theater which later became "Treasure City Flea Market" that he owned and operated until his passing. He enjoyed working every day of his life and providing a business for his entire family.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years , Jimmie Bell of Waco; one sister, Maggie Lou Jeffrey of Grand Saline; two daughters, Anna Bell Holt and Debora Bell Looney; one son, Herman T. Bell Jr. and wife Kathy, all of Waco. He is also survived by his five grandsons; Brandon Reinke, Donald Holt and fiancée Jennifer Fray, Kevin Holt, Herman T. Bell, III and wife Mindy, and Travis Looney; two granddaughters; Melissa Sullivan and husband Chase, and Heather Toliver and husband Scott; three great-grandsons, Brayden Sullivan, Judge Looney, and Wyatt Toliver; seven great-granddaughters; Ciara Holt, Tatum Holt, Addyson Holt, Davin Reinke, Mckenzie Bell, Bella Sullivan, and Millie Bell; along with other loving family members and Treasure City friends.
