Herchel Drennon Gamble of Golinda, Texas passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on June 23, 2022. Funeral services will be held in his honor at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29th at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco, with Dr. Morgan Woodard officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 28th at the funeral home.
Herchel was born September 9, 1929 to John and Willie Gamble in Blanchard, Oklahoma. He joined the Army at the age of 17 and was stationed in Austria at the end of WWII. After returning from military service, Herchel married Ora Lee Johnson in 1950 in New Mexico. They were married for 68 years during which they raised a family together. Herchel worked in the concrete business for more than 40 years and was a faithful deacon at the Golinda Baptist Church. He loved hunting especially in Colorado and at the deer lease every fall. Herchel was also an avid fisherman. He never turned down a friend or neighbor to lend a helping hand and would frequently share veggies from his garden.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ora Lee; his daughter, Janet Gamble.
Herchel is survived by his sons, Lucky Gamble, John Gamble and wife Deb; grandchildren, Brian Gamble, Lance Gamble, Brooke Gamble, Austun Ables, D.J. Yoder, and Tracy Shaffer; and eight great-grandchildren.
