2024. She was born April 30, 1942, in Teague, TX, to Jonas and Hazel (O’Neil) English.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Cindy Valdez, grandson, Jeremy Gamber, and granddaughter-in-law, Allison Fudge.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Ward Amon; children, Debbie Gilliam, Tina Corley, Kathy Coleman, James Walker, Theresa Hunke, Stefanie Fowler, Clint Walker, Lori Walker and Jenny Mortimer; grandchildren, Zach Gilliam, Joel Fudge, Danielle Fudge, Cody Farrell, James Walker, Jr, Matthew Hunke, Ryan Hunke, Robert Brogdon, Tiffanye Harrell, Brittanye Wilson, Maloree Scott, Shelby Graham, Whitney Mortimer, Chelsea Leathers, Kymber Shaw, and Tanner Shaw; great grandchildren, Kamryn & Ryleigh Fudge; and business associate and dear friend Bob Leimer.
Helen was a strong-willed, hardworking realist that loved life and people. Her outgoing and vivacious spirit was her calling card to everyone that knew and loved her. She strived to give everyone the benefit of a doubt, and often gave people second and third chances. She was bossy, and sometimes controlling, but always in a loving way and with the best intentions. As the owner of three businesses in her lifetime, she was well respected by her peers, customers, and business associates because she always put them first above herself. In the last five years she has barely increased prices for her customers, so many of them took it upon themselves to just pay her more money. They truly loved and appreciated her and so many of them have become lifelong friends.
Helen took the time to check on people. She was ‘Granny’ to all the young people who were friends of her grandchildren and neighbors. When people stopped by, she would often have stew and cornbread on the stove or one of her famous chocolate pies just out of the oven.
Helen was a rare and compassionate person that spent time thinking of others and what they needed, and if it was in her power to help them, she did just that. Above all, Helen loved Jesus, and she shared His message with everyone. It was on her mind and her lips to tell family and customers alike that Jesus is coming back soon, and we all need to be ready to meet Him in the air. Helen is now with Jesus, and all the family that has gone before her, and she is waiting for those of us who remain on this earth to meet her in Heaven. She'll be waiting, with cornbread in the oven.
