Helen Marie Beckham Uptmor 03-21-1918 – 02-03-2022.
The community of Hallsburg mourns the loss of one of its oldest and most respected citizens. God’s faithful servant, Helen Uptmor, passed away February 3, 2022, at her home. She lived in the Hallsburg area for over 85 years total. Helen was born in a farmhouse one mile south of Riesel, TX to Luke and Frankie Beckham. She was the second of eight children. She graduated from Riesel High School in 1936.
Helen married Jody Uptmor on March 24, 1938 and they started a life together in a small cabin near Hallsburg. They worked together on the farm for a number of years and were married over 52 years.
Helen served her community in several ways. She was a PTA member for over 16 years, serving as President and every other office needed. She served on the Hallsburg City Council and was the election judge for 50 years. Helen worked as the cafeteria manager at Hallsburg Elementary School for over 25 years combined. Later in life she worked at Auzells Fabric. Her greatest love, however, was her work at the school, where she touched and loved so many children through the years.
Helen believed that a person should complete, at least, one task each day. This was a belief she practiced until her death.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Jody; her parents; six brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Crone (Gene) of Louisiana and son, Robby Don Uptmor of Hallsburg; grandchildren, Douglas Crone (Tami) of South Carolina, Kim Thomas (Ric) of Louisiana, Cristi McGowan (Chris) of Waco, Craig Uptmor (Carissima) of Houston, Keith Uptmor of Gatesville; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 10am, Monday, February 14, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco, with Rev. Jeremy Beggs officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday, February 13, from 2 – 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, Hallsburg VFD, or Meier Settlement Methodist Church
