Harvey L. "Woody" Woodard, 84, passed away Monday, October 5, 2015. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 10, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco. Interment will follow at Lorena Cemetery, Lorena. A visitation with family and friends will be 6 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 9, at the funeral home.
Woody was born in Waco, Texas on January 14, 1931. He moved to Lorena in 1939 and graduated from Lorena High School in 1948. Woody became a Master Mason in 1955 and married Helen a year later in 1956 and began their family with two beautiful daughters. In 1957 he went to work for the City of Waco Fire Department and would later retire as a Captain of Engine Company 11 after 34 years of service. During the early 50’s he was in the Texas National Guard only serving a few years, but he helped in the rescue of people in the tornado that destroyed downtown Waco. He joined Scottish Rite in 1965, Karem Shrine in October 1969, and Shrine Clowns in 1970. He received many awards and held most offices more than once. He joined Scottish Rite transportation and made 34 trips Houston Orthopedic Hospital and Burn Center in Galveston. He married Jean Eastridge in September 1977. They were members of the Heart of Texas Square Dance and Round Dance Association, and several other organizations. They held offices in all these organizations. He was very active in the Lorena Ex Students Association and held offices. He never missed an Ex Students Homecoming event. He even attended this years homecoming.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harvey Lee Woodard, Sr.; mother, Dona Woodard; grandson, Ricky Fabianke; great-granddaughter, Samara Moon; sisters, Peggy Carroll, Flo Browder; and brother Billy Woodard.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Woodard of Lorena; daughters, Karla Greger and husband Arthur of Westphalla, Stacey Woodard of Waco; stepsons, David Eastridge and wife Kim of Hawaii, Bailey Eastridge of Fort Davidson; sister, Judy Robinson and husband Lewis of Plano; as well as 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
