Glynn Kirkland

April 5, 1942 — June 20, 2016

Glynn Hershel Kirkland, 74, of Whitney passed away Monday, June 20, 2016, on the anniversary of his 57th year of marriage to his loving wife, Reta, in Waco, Texas. He went to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his loving family.
Services will be Friday, June24, 2016 at 10:00 am at Pecan Grove Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the funeral home from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
Glynn was a long time member of Calvary Assembly of God and served on the Board of Trustees. Reta and Glynn became members at the First Church of the Nazarene in Whitney when they moved there in 2010.
Glynn was born April 5, 1942 in Mart, TX to Wilson and Edna (Toten) Kirkland. He attended La Vega ISD where he played football and he met the love of his life, Reta Meadors Kirkland. They married on June 20, 1959. They enjoyed a beautiful marriage together with their family and friends at their side. Glynn was a very dedicated employee and a hard worker, retiring from CJ&K Enterprise in 2010.
Glynn enjoyed all outdoor sports including: riding motorcycles, fishing, camping, and playing baseball with his sons; spending time with his grandchildren and great grandson always brought a twinkle to his eyes and a smile to his face. Glynn also enjoyed traveling to Branson, MO. Though Glynn was unable to serve his country, he truly admired and supported those that did. He was extremely patriotic with a great love of the red, white, and blue.
Glynn was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Elsie McCamey, and Wilburn Kirkland, and daughter-in-law, Leslie Kirkland. Survivors include: his wife, Reta Meadors Kirkland of Whitney; sons: Russell Kirkland and wife Donna of Axtell; David Kirkland and wife Sarah of Robinson; grandchildren: Amanda Kirkland, Cody Kirkland and wife Dana, Ethan Kirkland and wife Amber, Levi Kirkland and wife Kensie, Hannah Voss, Ava Grace Voss, Emma Voss; great-grandson, Kole Glynn Kirkland; his best friend, Uncle Bo Kirkland and wife Pam; several siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends.
Pallbearers: Grandchildren-Amanda, Cody, Ethan, and Levi, and nephews- Ronnie Eskew, and Glenn Ray Hassell. Honorary Pallbearers: his best friends, Greg Fanning, Leo “Bo” Kirkland, Larry Bright, Myron Eggers, Roger Hohertz, John Pinkhim, Gene Craine, Charles Grims, Ron Wilcox and Charles Orshak.
Thank you Quality Care and Southern Care Hospice for the attention and kindness you showed to the Kirkland Family. We want to extend our sincere appreciation to the New Road Church of Christ for providing a location for the family and friends to gather after the services to fellowship and to begin the healing process. Your generosity extended to us at this time is greatly appreciated.
