Gertrude Duty passed peacefully into life with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of May 1, 2010. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 3, at Rosemound Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home 3124 Robinson Dr.
Gertrude was born Nov. 16, 1923, in Tryon, N.C. She and her two sisters grew up in the Methodist Children's Home in Raleigh, N.C. She married Vernon Duty Sept. 11, 1944. Never having children of their own, Vernon and Gertrude showered their affection on nieces and nephews as well as numerous cats and dogs that they adopted over the years. Gertrude was a good wife and friend to Vernon, and spent most of her later years crocheting, doing needlepoint and taking care of "grandkids".
Gertrude is survived by Roland and Mary Duty, Sandy and Woody Stroud, Veta and Craig Cale, and their children.
She is also survived by her last rescue kitten, Lovie.
A special thanks must be given to the caregivers at Jeffrey Place for their tireless efforts to keep Gertrude busy and happy.
In lieu of flowers, you can honor Gertrude's memory with a donation to Fuzzy Friends Animal Rescue in Waco.
