Gerardo "Jerry" Rosas, 88, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, August 1, 2014, surrounded by his family. The funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial services following at Waco Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive.
Jerry was born on October 3, 1925, in Mosheim, Texas to Miguel and Susana Rosas. He was a carpenter by trade for most of his life, a member of Millwright Local Union 1421 for over 60 years, and helped build many of the structures in Waco including Freedom Fountain, Lee Lockwood Library and Museum, and the Lake Air Mall. He owned Waco Casa De Mexico for many years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, Seaman 1st class and Assistant Master of Arms, serving bravely during World War II. He loved telling stories, fishing, and building. Above all, he was a devoted father and grandfather and a pillar of strength for his family. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and will live on in our hearts forever.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Magdalena "Maggie" Niño; sisters, Macaria Alonso and Pauline Gobea; brothers Martin Rosas and Domingo Rosas and beloved pet dog, Rocky.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Dolores Lopez and husband, John; daughter, Irene Rosas; granddaughter, Michelle Harris, and husband, Chris; granddaughter, Lauren Lopez and husband, Brent Halamik; brother, John Rosas; sisters, Anselma Arispe, Marina Tenorio, and Mary Lopez; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be, Gavin Rosas, Albert Lopez, Vincent Lopez, Brent Halamik, Michael Rosas and Garrick Rosas.
Honorary Pallbearers will be, Alfred Lopez and Ralph Lopez.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Warlick family for their kindness and Providence Hospice for the care and kindness shown to him and the family through this difficult time.
