Emily Geraldine Turner, 97, of Waco, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 7, 2024. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, at 12:00 noon, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Geraldine was born in Rogers, Texas, on August 17, 1926, to Nettie May Dockray and Oliver H. Dockray. She was preceded in death by infant daughter, Linda Nell Ray; her parents; her brothers; husband James A. Turner; sons Jerry Wayne Ray and Jimmy Lou Turner; and daughter Debra Lanette Armstrong. She is survived by daughter Barbara Ann Sullivan and husband, Ron; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
As a young girl, Geraldine became a skilled baseball player and gave her brothers a “run for their money”. Her passion for sports and the outdoors remained strong all her life, and in later years, she enjoyed watching various sporting events (especially baseball and football) at every opportunity. She was a Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan to the end. Other pastimes included water skiing, fishing, crocheting, gardening, and working in her yard.
Geraldine moved to Waco in 1952 where she was employed at Owens Illinois Glass Plant for ten years. In 1963 she married James A. Turner. They spent many enjoyable years traveling and camping with friends in their recreational vehicles. Their travels took them to many different states, but they were just as happy spending time at Lake Waco and other area parks.
Holidays were always a special time for family at Grandma’s house. It was tradition for children and grandchildren to gather every Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter for a memorable day at Grandma’s.
Geraldine accepted Christ as her savior at a young age and she was an active member of Calvary Assembly of God Church for many years. In recent years attended Highland Baptist Church.
Pallbearers are Ron Sullivan, Jr., Barry Sullivan, Mike Turner, Corey Ray, Matthew Balderrama and Ron Sullivan Sr.
The family would like to thank Community Healthcare of Texas – Providence Hospice and floor staff of St. Anthony’s Care Center for all their help and care.
