Geraldine Kyle

November 29, 1934 — July 15, 2023

Geraldine Marie Verret Kyle passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 15th with her family at her side. It is with heavy hearts, but happy thoughts of a life well lived that we celebrate her life and honor her memory.

A memorial service will be held in Robinson, Texas at Bethel Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 7:00 pm. An additional memorial service will be held in Sulphur, Louisiana at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Maplewood United Methodist Church. A reception will be held immediately following the service in Sulphur.

Geraldine answered to many names, but she always answered no matter who was calling. She was Gerry to her friends, family and anyone that knew her. She was Mom to her children Lisa, Kevin and his wife Kristy who loved her dearly. She was Grandma Gerry to Ryan, Jacob and wife Beverly, Katie and husband Ryan, Kaylee and husband Drew, Kamryn and husband Colten, Hannah and Emory and great grandchildren Jaxon, Hadley, Hayes, Brooklyn, Arden, Collins, Sloan and Sullivan. She was Geraldine to her best friend and cousin Beverly Perkins Harrell who has spent a lifetime sharing travels and memories since childhood. Grandma Gerry was her favorite name by far. She was Miss Gerry to countless friends, acquaintances, and even people that didn’t know her, but all respected her care and compassion for serving others.

Gerry was born on November 29th, 1934, in Port Arthur, Texas. After the death of her mother as a young child, she and her sister Betty moved to Lake Charles, LA and were raised by Ulysses and Clodia Verret and by Ann and Shannon Duhon. She graduated from LaGrange High School in 1953 and soon after met her husband, Harvey Ray Kyle. They married on April 16, 1955 and were married for 36 years until his passing in 1992.

In the mid-1950’s, she and Harvey built their home in Maplewood, Louisiana which she lived in for 65 years until moving to Texas in 2020. They were active in the community, schools, little leagues, and Maplewood United Methodist Church. Harvey later helped build the new sanctuary which is why Maplewood is so near and dear to her heart. Gerry rarely met a stranger and lived to serve others. She and Harvey loved to travel and camp. In the late 1960’s they opened Kyle’s Kampers in Maplewood. They traveled all over the nation camping and exploring the great outdoors with their children, friends, and extended family members.

Gerry was primarily a stay-at-home mom while raising Kevin and Lisa. She was very involved at Maplewood United Methodist Church and occasionally worked as a substitute teacher at the local schools. Gerry was very selfless, always willing to cook, run errands and take family and friends to doctor appointments. She loved helping anyone in need and committed her life to helping and serving others.

She had a large circle of friends which included neighbors, church members, and family. She moved to Waco, Texas in 2020 to be closer to family. She missed her “Maplewood friends” dearly and continued to stay in touch. She quickly gained new friends in the Waco area and enjoyed joining Bethel Methodist Church in Robinson as her new church home. She loved being part of the “Sunday family dinners” with Kevin and Kristy’s families every Sunday night.

She was always prepared to host anyone who came to visit and always had something yummy “in the freezer” that she could have ready in a moment’s notice! She was very proud of her family. She loved playing games like UNO, Battle, cards, dominos or Wahoo. She remained active and spry taking friends to run errands, cooking for her neighbors, and picking up others for church services. Her servant heart and respect for others will be greatly missed. Family and friends will also miss hearing her favorite sayings such as “my lands” and “well I swannee” whenever news was shared with her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harvey Ray Kyle and her sister Betty Jean Credeur.
Rarely is a life so well lived in service to others. Gerry spent her life walking with Christ, doing anything she could to help anyone in need and never asking for anything in return. She will be missed by many, but we are grateful to have wonderful memories to cherish.
