George Allen Brooks, Jr. of Rosenthal, Texas passed away Monday, June 19, 2023, surrounded by family. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 23, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco, with Dr. Tim Watson officiating. A private family burial will follow at Coolidge Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home.
George Allen was born in Coolidge, Texas on August 31, 1929, to George Allen, Sr. and Nauvie Stokely Brooks. He was united in marriage to Bobbie Dean Walker on October 2, 1959.
George was a husband, father, rancher, teacher, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He graduated from Coolidge High School in 1948, attended Tehuacana College, was drafted into the US Army, and completed college degrees from North Texas State Teacher’s College.
His career in education began as an Industrial Arts teacher at Travis High School, Austin, Texas. Upon completing his first year of teaching in Austin, he moved to Waco and was employed as an educator for 29 years at Waco ISD-University High School.
He was a 50-year member of the Texas Grand Masonic Lodge, served his community as a member of the Rosenthal School Board, Robinson City Council, and Robinson FFA.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Walker Brooks. He is survived by a son, George Allen Brooks, III; a grandson, Clayton, and his wife Tiffany; a great-grandson, Cayden; a great-granddaughter, Teagan; a grandson, Calvin, and his wife, Cade; a great-grandson, Clifton; a great-grandson, Callan; a daughter; Bobbette Brooks Bell and her husband, Rodney; a granddaughter, Kendall Vogt and her husband, Adam; great-granddaughter, Chandler; and great-granddaughter, Collins.
George’s later years were made pleasant and enjoyable by the precious care of the staff at the Meridian of Temple.
