Gary Lynn Blackwell, 70, of Hewitt, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 S 5th St, Waco, TX, with Rev. Jerry Freedman officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Gary was born February 16, 1950, to Cull and Nettie Carlile Blackwell in Apache, OK. He worked at the city of Waco as a surveyor for 25 years. He loved fishing and camping and was a lifelong Dallas Cowboy fan. Gary loved his family more than anything. He was soft-spoken and lived a simple life. He was very supportive of his family, and especially enjoyed watching his son and his friends in their mixed martial arts tournaments. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Mildred Blackwell and Polly Wright.
He is survived by his daughter, Amber Vargo and husband Jassen; son, Andrew Blackwell; his siblings, Irene Hinson, Floyd “Bud” Alton Blackwell, Dorthy Blackwell, Chois Blackwell and wife Joan, Pat Osburn, Artie Ann Mayfield and husband James, Dottie Elaine Gill and Ron Blackwell and wife Sue; grandchildren, Jordan Williams and Alexandra Williams; along with many nieces nephews and other family and friends.
