Garnett Peebles was born December 23, 1930. She graduated from Waco High School. She worked for Word Records and retired from there with 21 years on October 7, 1987. She was married to the love of her life, Harry Peebles. After retirement, she lived her life serving people, always doing for others. In 1990 her husband became ill. She cared for him until he passed away in May 1991.
Garnett was always helping someone – kids; her mother (Meemaw Hanson); her sister, Hazel; her husband’s Aunt Gayle; and many friends.
She was a servant for the Lord. No one ever went hungry. When around Garnett, she always made sure people were fed. She would never turn anyone away. You were always welcomed by Garnett.
She loved family and friends. She cared for her church family, especially her Sunday School class. She was always taking food to someone and going to see them; picking them up to go to church or taking them home; carrying them to doctor’s appointments; shopping for them or going with them. She was a very strong woman. She just kept going all the time.
Garnett was partial to bluebonnets. She loved to send cards and receive cards for all occasions; sometimes writing letters.
She was a great wife, mother, and grandma; known as Meemaw to her grandkids. She was the hub for all the family members.
Garnett was preceded in death by her parents William Nichols and Euna Hanson; her sister Hazel Haught; her brother W.H. Nichols; her husband Harry; and her two sons, Johnny and Huhey Peebles.
Garnett is survived by two sons, Joe Peebles and wife Vickie of Waco; and Gary Peebles of Austin; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew.
Garnett will be missed in this world, but she is now in the hands of our Lord and the ones who went before. She fought the good fight. Now may she hear the words from her Jesus, “Well done, oh good and faithful servant.”
“Thank You” to the ones who were involved in the life of Garnett Peebles to the end. May you be blessed by the God she loved and honored, Jesus Christ. Till we meet in heaven – what a day of rejoicing that will be!
