Fred Franklin Lisenbe, 87, of Waco, formally of San Diego, CA, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 2, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco. Private burial will be held at a later time at Rosemound Cemetery, Waco, TX. The family will receive visitors from 5 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 1, at the funeral home.
Fred was born May 8, 1930, in Surginer, Al., to Obie and Sula Bradford Lisenbe. He graduated from Bryan High School in 1947, and then entered the Army Signal Corps until 1949. In 1950, Fred joined the US Airforce and served during the Korean War. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1957 with a degree in Geophysics. He worked for General Dynamics, where he worked in the Orbital Analysis Group involved in the design of GPS systems. He remained there until his retirement in 1993.
In 1964, Fred married Mary Lou Trice and adopted her daughter Lori Jean Maxwell in 1965. They moved to Waco, TX, in 2003. Although divorced in 1977, Fred and Mary remained close friends until his death. Fred volunteered with the El Cajon, CA, Police Department from 2001 – 2003, and with Meals on Wheels in Waco from 2012 – 2016.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Evelyn Herring, James Lisenbe, Bradford Lisenbe, and Lena Atchley.
Fred is survived by his lifelong friend, Mary Lou Trice; daughter, Lori Jean Maxwell; along with many nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Lisenbe, James Lisenbe, Larry Lisenbe, Glen Rodriguez, Hank Herring, Duncan Herring, Gary Webb, Cordel Rodriguez, John Chilton, Wayne Herring and Preston Herring.
