Frances Charlene Roberts, of Robinson, passed away Saturday, October 18, at a local hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 22 at 10am at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr., with Rev. Duane Hoxworth officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 21 from 6pm to 8pm at the funeral home.
Charlene was born on November 28, 1941 in Bristow, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charles S., Jr., and Ouida M. (Garner) Wood. She attended Waco High School and Durham’s Business College. Charlene married Wayne Roberts, her high school sweetheart, in Waco on May 19, 1962. They were blessed with over 52 years of marriage. She worked as a bookkeeper at Goldstein-Migel prior to the birth of her children.
Charlene was a member of First Baptist Church of Lorena, the Buddies Sunday School class, and the Young-at-Heart fellowship group. She enjoyed serving the Lord through the Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry, the Lord’s Supper Committee, and Vacation Bible School. Charlene was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who gave tirelessly of herself to serve and care for others.
Preceding Charlene in death were her parents, and her brother, Jim Wood.
Charlene is survived by her husband, Wayne Roberts of Robinson; her son, Jeff Roberts and wife Ronnie, of Ten Mile, TN., daughters, Tracey Greene and husband Gary of Moody, and Laurie Weldy and husband Brad of Rockport, TX. She also is survived by her beloved grandchildren: Christopher, Richard, and Jared Roberts; Stephanie and Sarah Greene; and Heather and Emily Weldy; by her brother, Richard Wood and wife Marilyn, of Robinson; and three nephews and one niece.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to Drs. John Kosarek, Charles Capen, and Nick Schwedock; the nurses of Hillcrest Clinic Midway; Tina Nelson, RN; nurses Margie and Trina of Providence Hospice; nurse Leah of Providence 4 North; Rev. Duane and Lisa Hoxworth; and our church family of First Baptist Church of Lorena, for their care, prayers, love and support for Charlene and her family.
Pallbearers will be Gary Greene, Brad Weldy, Jon Wood, Bert Yow, Raymond Wilcox and Clarence Ling.
