Felix Lon Jones

March 25, 1932 — December 25, 2024

Waco

Felix Lon Jones, age 92, peacefully passed away on December 25, 2024.

Lon was born on March 25, 1932 in Talco, Texas to Felix and Ruth Jones along with a twin sister, Neva Lavonne, who died at the age of 15 months. He grew up in Talco, along with his four half siblings, Boyd, Annah Ruth, Winell, and F.A. and his other 6 siblings, Jerry Lynn, John Paul, Billy Gene, Nelda Ruth, Cato Wims and Virgil Alexander.

After graduating from Talco High School in 1949 he attended Abilene Christian College for a year and then went on to Texas Christian University where he graduated with a BA in finance. After several years of working in banking, Lon felt a calling to preach and spread the gospel of Christ. He went back to Abilene Christian College and received his Master Degree in biblical studies.

He went on to serve congregations in Talco, Star, Cisco, Anahuac, Lampasas and spent seven years as a missionary in the Netherlands. His preaching career ended in Waco at the New Road church of Christ where he served for 20 years.

Lon met his wife, Mary Olive in Talco, Texas and they were married on August 19, 1950 and were happily married for almost 71 years before her passing in June, 2021. Together they had five children, Janet Kay, Debra Lavonne, Stanley Keith, Lori Lonette and Sharla Nell. Lon was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his grandchildren, Jennifer (deceased), April, James, Leah, Kelsey, Cole, Stephanie, Kyle, Hailey, Clint and Scott. He attended their sporting events, performances, graduations and weddings. In his later years, nothing brought him greater joy than his precious great grandchildren, Bethany, Wren, Willow, Sam, Parker, Penelope, Paige, Joss, Elliott, Jack, Mae, Luca, Oliver (deceased) and Jonah. He loved holding them as babies, reading to them, watching them play as they grew older, going to see them play sports, and just sitting and talking with them. His family was his greatest blessing.

Lon was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; daughter, Janet; granddaughter, Jennifer, great grandson Oliver, siblings, Neva, Boyd, Annah Ruth, Winnell, F.A., Jerry, John, Bill, Cato, and Virgil. Brother-in-law, James Kelsoe, sisters-in-law, Billie Jones and Dorothy Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on Monday, December 30 at New Road Church of Christ with Alan Ritchie and Charlie Thomason officiating. Burial will be at Talco Cemetery in Talco, Texas at 3:30pm.
