Evelyn Sommerfeld

Evelyn Sommerfeld, age 88, of Hallsburg, TX, departed this earthly life on January 29, 2023. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco. Burial will immediately follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.

Evelyn was born on September 5, 1934, to William and Emily (Hueske) Becker in McGregor, TX. She was baptized on Oct. 1, 1934 at Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor, TX by Pastor Hans Krause and confirmed on March 21, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor L. G. Hannemann. Her memory verse was John 3:16. She met and married the love of her life, Wesley Sommerfeld at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waco, TX, by Pastor E. A. Heckman on January 1, 1953. They were blessed to have each other for 61 years together until Wes' passing on April 11, 2014.

Evelyn was known for her love of her children and grandchildren. She loved the outdoors and taking care of her yard when she was not at the deer lease enjoying life with Wes and their "deer" friends. Her three daughters married three brothers, so she was very blessed with many, many fun-filled family memories. Although she will be missed by friends and family here, heaven is welcoming her with open arms and will truly love her.

She was preceded in her death by husband, Wesley Sommerfeld; her parents; daughter, Kathy Kubitza; and brothers, Leroy Becker, Marvin Becker and wife Imogene, Walter Becker and wife Gladys.

Evelyn is survived by daughters, Karen Kubitza and husband Walter, Kristi Kubitza and husband Danny, and son-in-law Billy Kubitza and wife, Mari. She has five grandchildren, Kimberly Vicha and husband, J.R. Vicha, Brandon Kubitza and wife, Kayla, Angel Breton and husband, Jason, Heather Hutchison and husband, Johnnie and Kayla Neumann. She has two great grandchildren, John Robert Vicha III and Lily Breton. She has one surviving sister-in-law, Shirley Becker.
