Eugene M. (Chick) Reeves, 85, of Golinda passed away Friday at his residence after a brief illness. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, at First Baptist Church Golinda with Reverend Morgan Woodard will be officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday June 3, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home 3124 Robinson Drive.
Chick was born September 14, 1927, in Whitewright TX, the son of John L. Reeves and Dale McGaughey Reeves. He was the oldest of four sons.
Eugene attended school in Whitewright, TX, graduating in 1945. Soon after graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in San Diego, CA. He was honorably discharged and soon began a career at the VA Hospital in McKinney, TX. This is where he met a cute young nurse named Rachel Betterton, and they married on October 28, 1950.He worked for the VA Medical Centers in McKinney, TX, and Waco, TX, for 36 years and retired in 1982.
Eugene and Rachel had four daughters, Ann, Mary, Kay, and Kelly. Soon there were eight grandchildren and, before you know it, there were eight great grandchildren with another on the way.
Chick had many interests including gardening, bee keeping, raising goats, shopping and selling at flea markets, and raising chickens (which earned him the nickname Chick).
Preceding him in death are his parents, John and Dale Reeves, brother, David Reeves, and daughter, Kay Carter. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years Rachel Reeves, daughters, Ann Bailey of Lorena, TX, Mary Whitaker and husband Cliff of Robinson, TX, and Kelly Reeves of Lago Vista, TX.
Also son-in-laws Robert Carter and Edward Bailey, six grandsons, two granddaughters, eight and a half great grandchildren, two brothers James Reeves and wife Liza, John Dale Reeves and wife Aileen, sister-in-law Kathleen Reeves, and numerous nieces and nephews.
