Edwin Dewayne Hill, 92, of Waco passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 21, 2024.
Services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 4th at Pecan Grove Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Pecan Grove Funeral Home on Friday, January 3rd from 6 – 8 pm.
Edwin (Ed) was born November 30,1932 in Troupe, Texas to Lillian D. Shaw and William Hill. After graduating from Whitney High School where he was the quarterback of football team, he enlisted in the National Guard and later the US Marines until he accepted a position with General Tire where he was employed until it’s closing in 1985.
It was in 1959 when he met and married the love of his life, Janis Faye Pledger. They were married for 65 years until she went on to be with her savior this past May. Ed supported all his kids and grandchildren’s school and church activities. He loved camping, fishing, vacationing, and playing games with family and friends. He loved sneaking up on people and making scary sounds, talking like Donald Duck or breaking out some diddly song like Water Lilly or On a Hill far away stood an old Chevrolet…
Ed and Janis owned and operated Christi’s Hamburgers in Bellmead for many years before passing the reins over to their youngest daughter, Christi. Ed continued helping Christi open up the shop each morning and typically had a daily burger for brunch.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Hill and Lillian Shaw, and his wife, Janis Faye Hill and brothers, Daniel and James Hill.
He is survived by daughter, Janna and husband, David Morrow; son, Jeff and wife, Christina Hill; daughter, Christi and husband, Ernie Gerik; and son, Ronnie and wife, Anne Herrin.
Grandchildren: Samantha Allison, McKenzee Gerik, Lindsey Hamm, Brooke Hamm, Parker Hamm, Zach Morrow and wife, Kailyn, Tyler Hill and wife Jill, Jacob Hill, Jennifer Herrin Booker and Joe Herrin and wife, Danielle. Great-grandchildren; Bryson, Carmen, Brinley, Bristol, Keaton, Paisley, Aaron, Ella, Chandler, Emersyn, Mason, Kaylee, Mia, Alyssa and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to recognize and give thanks to our special families, staff of Brookdale Senior Living Facility and our Halcyon hospice nurses, they have all truly been our angels on earth.
