All are welcome to attend and celebrate Edna’s amazing life.
Edna was born on December 18, 1922 on a farm in Lake Crystal, MN to Silas and Ruth Carlson. She graduated from Mounds Midway School of Nursing in 1947. In 1950, she completed missionary training at Northwestern. From there, she went to Iran to work as a missionary nurse in a small orphanage. During a trip to Tehran, the capital of Iran, while on her way to renew her visa, she and the other missionaries were invited to a party at the Marine house that was hosted by Dewey W. Jackson. Dewey and Edna made an instant connection and were married on June 5, 1954. They were quite the travelers. Their first child, Dewey M. Jackson, was born in Quantico, VA, second child Lois was born in Buffalo, NY, and third child Janet was born in Dallas, TX. In October of 1958 they began to prepare as missionaries and were sent to Pakistan, Dewey W. as a preacher and Edna as a nurse. March 1959 they and their three kids ages 4, 3, and 2 rode on an ocean freighter and landed in Karachi, Pakistan on Good Friday 1959. They all returned to MN in 1961and spent the next several years living in Southern MN, Huron South Dakota, and then the Navajo Indian Reservation in Northern Arizona. By this time, Edna and Dewey were married about 20 years, but in the summer of 1974 Dewey died suddenly, and she became a widow at the age of 52. After the girls graduated high school, they moved to Waco, TX where she finally settled down. In 1977, she met J. Woodson Hughes who was a wounded Vietnam Veteran. They lived a wonderful life together in the Waco area for a little over 20 years. Woodson passed away in 2001 and left Edna a widow for the second time at the age of 79. She continued to live a happy life in Lorena, TX and was surrounded by her children and many grandchildren. She was a very independent woman who was always positive and encouraged many to stay true to the faith. She lived every day of her life for Jesus Christ. Her Christian beliefs never wavered and she has shown by example how to live a faithful life.
Edna is survived by her three children Dewey Jackson and wife Gina of Lorena, TX, Lois Rogers and husband Randall of Whitehouse, TX, and Janet Ramsey and husband Arnie of West, TX; sister Eleanor Roth and late husband Dr. Al Roth of Mankato, MN, brother Phil Carlson and late wife Valleen of Mankato, MN, brother Robert Carlson and wife Norma of North Mankato, MN, and brother Wes Carlson and wife Gloria of Chino Valley, AZ; 11 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.
