Doyle Rinewalt

February 22, 1926 — March 24, 2014

Doyle Rinewalt, of Hewitt, formerly of Lorena, passed away Monday, March 24, at a local hospital following a brief illness. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Oakwood Cemetery in with Rev. Buddy Sipes officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home 3124 Robinson Dr.

Doyle was born February 22, 1926, in Waco, to A. F. and Myrtle Rinewalt. He attended Waco schools and graduated from Waco High School. He enlisted in the navy and served on the battleship Alabama for four years. There he saw action in every major naval battle in the Pacific including Saipan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He received eleven battle stars for his service aboard the Alabama.

After the war, he married Melba Rinewalt in 1948 and began his working career at Lake Creek power plant while he attended college. In 1954, he began work at North American Aviation in McGregor. For the next twenty years he worked on mechanical design and development of the Saturn V rocket and various machine motors for the Apollo space programs. He also contributed to the sidewinder missile and B-1 bomber programs. He spent his last fifteen working years at General Tire in Waco retiring to his farm in 1988. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all their sports activities, along with fishing and being on his farm with his dogs and the land he loved. His kindness, grace and love of the Lord are the attributes he leaves behind and are the things he cherished most.

He was a longtime member of Cottonwood Baptist Church in Lorena. He was also an endowed lifetime member of Fidelis Lodge 1127 in Waco, M. Denton Stanford Lodge 594 in Lorena, and Waco Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Melba Francis Rinewalt, in 1971, brothers Ford and wife Hortense Rinewalt, Milton and wife Lillian Rinewalt, Wallis and wife Ruby Rinewalt, and daughter-in-law Charlene Rinewalt of Brownwood, TX.


Doyle is survived by his sons, Robert Rinewalt of Brownwood, TX and Larry and Janice Rinewalt of Hewitt, TX. Also, grandchildren, Kristi and Adam Fuller, Elizabeth and Brian Fields, Jason and Teri Rinewalt and Jeffrey and Jalayne Rinewalt; great grandchildren, Chandler, Attison and Abigale Fuller, Ashlin and Landon Fields, Elle and Easton Rinewalt and Kyndal and Jonah Rinewalt; as well as several nieces and nephews.


In lieu of flowers, send memorials to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Dallas, TX.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and the crew of the USS Alabama BB-60. Together Forever.
