Dorthy Ann “Granny Ann” Schmalriede, a long time McGregor resident, passed away Wed. Feb. 22, 2017, at the age of 80, with her daughters and sister by her side. A visitation will be 3 to 5 P.M. Sunday at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr. Waco. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at College Avenue Baptist Church, 201 S. Monroe Street, McGregor with Rev. Chip Anthony and Rev. Carroll Hambrick officiating. Interment will follow in McGregor Cemetery.
Mrs. Schmalriede was born February 8, 1937, in Mulberry, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Carl Vesta and Dorothy Jewell (Gragg) Henson. She began her education in Oklahoma and finished at McGregor High School. She continued her education at Waco Beauty School and was a lifelong beautician. For many years, she owned and operated Ann’s Beauty Shop in McGregor, prior to her 2005 retirement. Ann enjoyed flower gardening and growing tomatoes. It has been said,” If she did not have any growing, she would soon find some.” She and her husband James Schmalriede, who she married September 2, 1983, in McGregor, enjoyed traveling. Those trips took them to Arkansas to see family members. She enjoyed being with her family and doing things with her grandchildren. One could not forget the many cokes she drank.
She was a longtime member of College Avenue Baptist Church.
Also preceding her in death was her husband James, May 27, 2016; a son Ross Keith Fisk; two brothers, Paul Henson and Cleo Henson and her beloved dog Sadie.
Survivors include two daughters, Becky Jenkins and husband Jimmy, Teresa Keel; a stepdaughter, Deanna Robinett and husband Keith, Terri Schmalriede and husband Chris Schlottmann; a sister, Beverly Maxfield and husband Gary; sister-in-law, Janie Henson; Grandchildren, Vicky Gonzales and husband Jason, Justin Jenkins and wife Britni, Meagan Keel and Jared Keel, Landon Robinett, Kylie Robinett; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
